Looking for child care?
If you are searching for licensed child care in Manitoba, you will be looking for one of the nearly 42,000 spaces (in centres and licensed family homes) in our province. Almost all licensed programs charge parents $10 for a regular day of care; government funding sent directly to the facility covers the remainder of the operating costs. Very prudently, Manitoba operating funding is only available to non-profit child care programs. You will discover that all for-profit (commercial) child care centres have much higher parent fees (sometimes $80/day or more) despite paying educators the same or less as not-for-profit centres. Some family care homes also charge parents more than $10/day.
When the price of childcare in Manitoba dropped to $10/day in 2023, the number of parents looking for a child care space increased, putting stress on a system that already didn’t have enough spaces to meet parent needs. Thus, many parents discover a waiting list for spaces in their preferred region.
