Promoting economic security and reducing work-family conflict for rural and northern women in Manitoba
The Coalition's current project builds on our social and economic impact studies of childcare. Our focus is on how a universal childcare system can promote women's economic security and reduce work-family conflict, particularly for rural and northern communities. You can learn more about the projects by visiting the project web page and our Calendar to check out upcoming activities around the province.
Changing childcare in Manitoba
We have produced the first-ever Canadian economic and social impact studies of childcare. The research reports quantify the impressive economic and social impacts of childcare in Manitoba. Every $1 invested in childcare generates $1.58 of local economic activity outside Winnipeg, and between $1.38 - $1.45 inside Winnipeg. Childcare is a strong job creator: every 2.0 full-time childcare jobs supports another full-time job. Childcare is a green and sustainable industry, which enables parent earnings and facilitates women's employment, while also providing children with early learning and care that supports their development.
