We regret to announce that the escalating H1N1 public health issue has forced us to cancel the conference. We are working to reprofile the content as a 'virtual conference' - please watch this space for updates.
H1N1 pandemic plan guidelines have been issued by government to the child care community, schools, healthcare and social service agencies. In addition, basic public health guidelines to the public at large have advised citizens to engage in “social distancing measures.” As further evidence of the drastic public health effects of the H1N1 pandemic, we observe that the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority has cancelled pre-natal classes and clinics and the Government of Canada has issued a travel advisory which includes information about quarantine officers.
In terms of child care, we are specifically concerned about the consequences of the guidelines issued by the Province of Manitoba titled: Government of Manitoba's Pandemic Influenza: A Guide to Pandemic Preparedness Planning of Early Learning and Child Care Facilities. It is clear that the threat posed by H1N1 has a significant impact on the ability of the childcare community to participate in professional development outside their programs.
We will be working diligently with our planner, Shannon Barry, to minimize any disruption caused by this last-minute change of plans. If you are a workshop presenter or conference attendee, please be in touch with Shannon at
